US diatomite under the microscope

Esperer Holdings Inc. commissioned ANZAPLAN in July 2015 to evaluate a sample from a diatomite deposit in the US.

Diatomite is a sedimentary rock which is composed mainly of fossilized remains of diatoms, i.e. a type of siliceous algae. Due to its intricate structure and inherent unique properties such as e.g. high surface area, low density, chemical inertness it is ideally suited for a wide range of purposes including high value applications in filtration and paints industries.

Currently physical and thermal treatment test work is ongoing at ANZAPLAN’s technical center and laboratory to evaluate the diatomite sample with regard to its suitability for above mentioned applications. A tailor-made process for obtaining diatomite products meeting typical market specifications is conceived.
