The Comité Européen des Fabricants de Sucre (CEFS) has announced ANZAPLAN to be the reference laboratory for sugar factory lime (SFL) analysis during REACH registration. ANZAPLAN has a proven expertise by the DACH-accreditation chamber, a signatory of the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC).
SFL is obtained from the beet sugar industry during purification of the raw juice. Main part of this by-product consists of calcium carbonate (Calcite) containing up to 50% of CaO.
X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) is used to confirm the chemical composition of SFL. Additional phases such as Weddellite (C2CaO4*2H2O) and Quartz (SiO2) are detected. While the Quartz content is quantified by regular XRD methods using well-defined standards for calibration, quantitative Rietveld analysis has been developed and proven by ANZAPLAN as a new milestone in the analysis of Weddellite.
In agreement with CEFS ANZAPLAN offers the following analytical services:
1) Identification of the crystalline phases CaCO3, MgCO3, sand (Quartz)
Ca3(PO4)2, Weddellite, etc. by XRD
2) Quantitative analysis of the crystalline phases in combination with
wavelength dispersive x-ray fluorescence WDXRF
3) Determination of the organic carbon content
4) Determination of the total carbon content
